About Scott McCain, Consultant Surgeon

Mr Scott McCain is an experienced general surgeon who specialises in gastrointestinal surgery. His NHS practice is in the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. He works privately at the Ulster Independent Clinic and Kingsbridge Private Hospital in Belfast.

He has extensive experience and training in complex upper gastrointestinal surgery for cancer and benign disease, hepatobiliary surgery, and weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery).

​

In addition to his training in Northern Ireland, he also completed a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery in Sydney, Australia. Since then, he has continued to develop his skills in laparoscopic surgery for procedures such as hernia repair, gallstone removal, hiatus hernia repair, anti-reflux surgery, and weight loss surgery.

Mr McCain has also trained in robotic assisted surgery for all of the above conditions and is accredited by Intuitive Surgical for the Da Vinci surgical robot

• Investigation of abdominal pain, swallowing problems, reflux, nausea, vomiting

• investigation and treatment for gastric and oesophageal cancer

• Hernia surgery, both open and laparoscopic (keyhole) and robotic

• Laparoscopic (keyhole) and robotic cholecystectomy (surgery for gallbladder or gallstones),

• Laparoscopic, robotic and open surgery for hiatus hernia, reflux, achalasia

• Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy

• Weight loss or bariatric surgery

• Removal of skin lumps

Outside of the hospital, he enjoys spending time with his family and his dog. He also enjoys hillwalking, cycling, and skiing.
