Endoscopy
An upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy or OGD allows Mr Scott McCain to examine the lining of the oesophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. Using a thin, flexible camera, Mr McCain is able to obtain high-definition, real-time images, as well as take biopsies or provide treatment where necessary. For patients, this approach offers a safe, efficient, and accurate way to investigate symptoms such as reflux, abdominal pain, or difficulty swallowing. The procedure is generally well tolerated, carries a low risk of complications, and usually allows for same-day discharge, helping patients return quickly to their normal routines. This can be facilitated under throat spray only or with sedation including anaesthetic.
